Forever a Gypsy

I’ve been a traveling Jake since I was a little girl. Every Sunday, my Mom and Dad tossed my sister and me into the back seat of our brown and tan, ’76 Chrysler New Yorker, sleepy-eyed and yawning. The smell of fresh coffee wafted through the air as we drove over to scoop up Grandma and down the road we went on another adventure.

Sometimes, we’d stay close to home, eating at a new restaurant in town and sometimes we’d pull out the big guns, cranking up the motor home to conquer distant lands. Back then, our adventures found us mining for gold nuggets, exploring the headwaters of the Mississippi and sampling prize-winning chili in a little town of 400 that grew to 405 one sunny afternoon. No matter where we ended up, it was guaranteed our adventure would be a fun one, creating many memories in our wake.

I’ve grown up (a bit) since then, but I still carry on the tradition, this time scooping up the blue-eyed boy I married (John, lovingly known as “Juan”) and our dog, Koko (aka Koko Bean) as we set our GPS and our hearts on a new destination.

So come along as we gnaw on your ear about our road trips and favorite finds. I can’t guarantee we’ll nosh on gefilte fish, head cheese or bugs (let’s leave that to the professionals for now) but we’ll blab about such things as the treasure we unburied at a vintage tag sale, the uniquely flavored apple fritter we devoured at a trendy new donut shop, or a candid photo we captured while out carousing.

Oh, and if you happen to explore one of our favorite haunts, we’d love to hear what you think. Maybe even post a few secrets of your own?

P.S. None of the wonderful stores and people we blog about have put a nickel in our pockets to advertise. We just love their little shops and can’t wait to share them with you.
